Overview
Kanjizaioin Site, part of the Hiraizumi World Heritage, is the ruin of a temple built by the wife of Fujiwara no Motohira. Beside Motsuji, the Pure Land garden centered on Maizuru Pond preserves the foundations of two amida halls. Designated a Special National Historic Site.
Origins
Kanjizaioin is believed to have been founded around the Kyuan era (approximately 1145–1151) by the wife of Fujiwara no Motohira, the second head of the Oshu Fujiwara clan.
