Founded in 807 by Kukai on the site of his father's home — a birthplace of the saint himself; one of the three great Kobo Daishi sites alongside Koyasan and Toji, and the main hall of the head temple Zentsuji enshrines Yakushi Nyorai.
Zentsuji Kondo (main hall) is the heart of the 75th Shikoku pilgrimage temple, head temple of Shingon Zentsuji-ha. Kukai's birthplace, Zentsuji is one of Kobo Daishi's three great sites alongside Koyasan and Toji. The pagoda, Kondo, and Daishi-do form a grand complex, established where Kukai's Saeki family lived before his voyage to Tang in 804.
