概要
Jokanji Temple, known as the 'Nagekomi-dera' (toss-in temple), is where courtesans from the Yoshiwara pleasure quarter were buried after the 1855 Ansei earthquake. Author Nagai Kafu's famous inscription memorializes their tragic lives.
由緒
Founded in 1655 (Meireki 1). Called 'Nagekomi-dera' (Toss-in Temple) because courtesans from the Yoshiwara pleasure quarter who died in the 1855 Ansei earthquake were buried here without ceremony. A monument by Nagai Kafu remains.
