概要
One of Japan's three great mountain castles, perched at 717m. Famous for its female castle regent Lady Otsuya (Nobunaga's aunt) and spectacular multi-tiered stone walls. The surrounding castle town is a nationally designated Preservation District for Traditional Buildings.
由緒
承久元年（1219年）頃、遠山景朝が築城。戦国時代には女城主・おつやの方が城を守り、武田・織田の争奪の舞台となった。関ヶ原後は松平氏が藩主を務め、大規模な石垣普請が行われた。明治4年の廃藩置県により廃城、現在は国の史跡。

Lady Otsuya, Nobunaga's aunt and castle regent, defected to the Takeda in 1572. Nobunaga retook the castle in 1575 and executed both Lady Otsuya and the Takeda commander Akiyama Torafusa. He then installed loyal retainers as castellans, making Iwamura a key stronghold for consolidating his control over eastern Mino.
