During the Sengoku period, Takeda Shingen reportedly used Ikaho Onsen to treat wounded soldiers and prayed at this Fudo shrine. Ikaho, an ancient hot spring celebrated in the Man'yoshu, was known for its healing waters, said to have benefited Shingen's troops as well. As guardian deity of Ikaho Onsen, the shrine still carries this tradition tied to the warlord.
