A Jodo-shu temple formally known as Rinkaisan Hensho-in Hozenji, founded in 1384. During the Hoei era (1704-1711), it received deep patronage from Keisho-in, mother of the 5th Shogun Tsunayoshi, who was known for encouraging the controversial Edicts on Compassion for Living Things.
