A sub-temple of Tenryuji founded in 1461 by Hosokawa Yoriyuki with the monk Seichuei as founding abbot. Hogenin was founded in 1461 (Kansho 2) as a sub-temple of Tenryuji by Hosokawa Yoriyuki, who served as kanrei (deputy shogun) of the Muromachi shogunate, with the monk Seichu Eiko as its founding abbot.
