Yashimaji Temple sits atop the Yashima plateau, immediately adjacent to the battlefield of the 1185 Battle of Yashima. The celebrated 'Fan as Target' episode — in which Nasu no Yoichi shot down a fan from a Taira boat with a single arrow — is said to have taken place on the beach directly below this plateau. The temple's treasure hall preserves armor and votive tablets associated with the Genpei War, and Yashimaji continues to attract history enthusiasts as a sacred site that keeps Yoichi's legendary feat alive.
