The 107-meter Goryokaku Tower adjacent to the fort offers the only bird's-eye view of its star shape. Exhibits inside cover Goryokaku history and the Boshin War, featuring a statue of Hijikata Toshizo. It's the premier spot to photograph cherries in spring or snow in winter.

Goryokaku Tower stands adjacent to Goryokaku fort, the star-shaped fortification completed in 1864 during the final years of the Edo period.
