The Kaiyomaru Memorial Ship in Esashi is a full-scale replica of the Tokugawa shogunate's Dutch-built flagship that sank in a storm off Esashi in 1868 during the Boshin War. Today the reconstruction houses a museum featuring artifacts from Enomoto Takeaki, Hijikata Toshizo, and the bakumatsu's final days.
