A Rinzai temple in Kofu City associated with Lady Oi (Oi no kata), the birth mother of Takeda Shingen. Lady Oi was the principal wife of Takeda Nobutora and bore Shingen in 1535. After Nobutora was exiled she remained in Kofu and supported Shingen's reign. Chozenji is a Rinzai Buddhist temple in Kofu City, said to have been founded in 1521 (Daiei 1). The precise circumstances of its founding are not fully documented, but the temple is known to have maintained close ties with the Takeda clan from the era of Takeda Nobutora. Chōzenji, a Rinzai Zen temple, is associated with Ōi no Kata, the birth mother of Takeda Shingen, and tradition holds she gave birth to him at this site. After Nobutora was exiled to Suruga by Shingen in 1541, Ōi no Kata is said to have remained in Kofu, quietly supporting her son's rule, and the temple preserves the history of the Takeda clan's women.
