The main guardian shrine of the ancient Asaka Province (modern Koriyama), said to have been founded in 135 CE. Enshrines Hitone no Mikoto, the province's first local chieftain (kuni no miyatsuko). Listed in the Engishiki, the shrine celebrates over 1,800 years of history and hosts around 300,000 visitors at New Year's.
