Built by the Kaga domain as the memorial temple for Maeda Toshinaga, whose main hall, dharma hall, and mountain gate are all designated National Treasures of early Edo Zen architecture
Zuiryuji in Takaoka, Toyama, is a Soto Zen temple built as the family temple of Maeda Toshinaga of the Kaga domain. Its Somon, Sanmon, Butsuden, and Hatto in a straight line are collectively a National Treasure — a masterpiece of early Edo Zen architecture. The Butsuden, Hatto, and Sanmon are National Treasures; corridors are Important Cultural Properties.
Built in 1663 (Kanbun 3) by Maeda Toshitsune, the third lord of the Kaga domain, to pray for the repose of the second lord, Maeda Toshinaga. Construction is said to have taken over thirty years and mobilized several hundred thousand laborers in total.
