The site of Yoshizaki Gobo in Awara City, the base from which Rennyo Shonin, the great reviver of Jodo Shinshu Buddhism, conducted his missionary work in the Hokuriku region. In 1471 Rennyo built the gobo (temple) here and engaged in vigorous proselytizing, rapidly spreading Jodo Shinshu across Hokuriku and igniting the Ikko-ikki uprisings.
