概要
Usa Jingu in Oita Prefecture is the head shrine of approximately 44,000 Hachimangu shrines nationwide. Founded in 725, it enshrines Hachiman Daijin, Hime Daijin, and Empress Jingu — one of Japan's Three Great Hachimangu. During the Nara period it was central to the Dokyo Oracle Incident, and as tutelary deity of the Minamoto clan it stands as a fountainhead of Hachiman worship.
