Overview
Usa Jingu in Oita Prefecture is the head shrine of approximately 44,000 Hachimangu shrines nationwide. Founded in 725, it enshrines Hachiman Daijin, Hime Daijin, and Empress Jingu — one of Japan's Three Great Hachimangu. During the Nara period it was central to the Dokyo Oracle Incident, and as tutelary deity of the Minamoto clan it stands as a fountainhead of Hachiman worship.

Shrine grounds hours: April–September 5:30 AM–7:00 PM, October–March 6:00 AM–6:00 PM. Prayer reception: 9:00 AM–4:00 PM daily (except New Year). Treasure Hall: 10:00 AM–3:00 PM, closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
Admission
Free to enter the shrine grounds. Treasure Hall admission (revised July 2026): adults ¥400, elementary school age and up ¥200, preschoolers free.
