A Tenmangu shrine in Suma, Kobe, dedicated to the scholar-deity Sugawara no Michizane. Founded in 919 in memory of Michizane's exile to Dazaifu. Legend says that when he landed at Suma due to bad weather, fishermen used rope to prepare a seat for him — giving the shrine its name.
Tsunashiki Tenmangu Shrine is said to have been founded in 919 (the 19th year of the Engi era). Its origins trace back to 901, when the scholar-statesman Sugawara no Michizane was exiled to Dazaifu in Kyushu following false accusations by Fujiwara no Tokihira.
