Takase Shrine is the ichinomiya (head shrine) of Etchu Province, located in Nanto City, Toyama. Enshrining Onamuji no Mikoto (Okuninushi), the deity of good matches, agriculture, and industry, it attracts worshippers from inside and outside the prefecture. Said to have been worshipped even before the Nara period, it has long served as the ichinomiya of Etchu Province and the guardian shrine of the wider region. In the Edo period it was deeply revered by the Kaga domain, and records remain of shrine building repairs carried out at that time.
