In 1587, Toyotomi Hideyoshi established his headquarters at Taihei-ji during his Kyushu campaign, and negotiations for the surrender of Yoshihiro's brother Yoshihisa took place here. Shimazu Yoshihiro was involved in this meeting, witnessing the negotiations that secured the Shimazu clan's retention of their three provinces. As a result of this submission, Yoshihiro would later be mobilized under Hideyoshi for the Korean campaigns.

In 1587, while conquering Kyushu, Toyotomi Hideyoshi made Taihei-ji his headquarters and met the Shimazu brothers, Yoshihisa and Yoshihiro. He guaranteed their rule over Satsuma, Osumi, and Hyuga in exchange for submission. The Shimazu clan then came under Toyotomi rule and was later mobilized for the invasions of Korea. The temple's name may commemorate this peace.
