Shibata Katsuie was a senior retainer of Oda Nobunaga. In 1575, on Nobunaga's orders, he suppressed the Ikko-ikki uprising in Echizen and was rewarded with the entire province. Katsuie built Kitanosho Castle here as his base, and the castle ruins where this shrine now stands recall his entrustment with Echizen's rule under Nobunaga's regime.

Visiting Information

Hours

Shrine grounds open for worship/visiting at any time, no stated hour restrictions. The Kitanosho Castle Ruins Museum within the precincts is open 9:00 AM–5:00 PM, no closure days.

Admission

Free to visit. Goshuin costs an optional fee (¥500 hand-written / ¥600 pre-printed), and a goshuin-jo castle stamp costs ¥1,000.
