Akiu Onsen, a hot spring resort along the Natori River, is counted among Japan's three great imperial baths. After the Sendai domain was established, Date Masamune and the successive lords of Sendai used it as their palace bath, and it developed as a therapeutic hot spring under the domain's protection. It remains beloved today as Sendai's "inner parlor."
