Hourinji Temple in Otawara City's Sarado district is a renowned Tendai temple with the mountain name Komaruyama.
The principal Fudo Myoo has proven power for warding off evil, affectionately known as Sarado's Fudo.
The grounds house one of Japan's largest tengu masks, overwhelming visitors with its powerful presence.

Hourinji was founded during the Tencho era (824-834), said to have been established by Jikaku Daishi Ennin.
Ennin is said to have enshrined Fudo Myoo here while traveling through the Nasu region.
Developing as a Tendai training hall, it received Nasu clan devotion in the medieval period.
