Overview
The first torii gate on the approach to Atago Jinja, the head shrine of approximately 900 Atago shrines nationwide, dedicated to the deity of fire prevention. Founded in the early 8th century. The Kyoto custom of displaying the fire-prevention amulet 'Hi no Yojin' in the kitchen originates from Atago faith. The main hall sits atop 924-meter Mt. Atago, requiring about four hours of hiking.
