The Kyoto custom of displaying the fire-prevention amulet 'Hi no Yojin' in the kitchen originates from Atago faith. The main hall sits atop 924-meter Mt. Atago, requiring about four hours of hiking.
Atago Jinja is traditionally said to have been founded in 701 CE (the first year of the Taiho era) by the ascetic En no Ozuno and Taicho, the monk credited with opening Mt. Hakusan.
