Origins
Gogenji is a Jodo sect Buddhist temple founded in 1587 (Tensho 15) in Nakatsu, Buzen Province. The following year, in 1588, Kuroda Takakage (Kanbei), lord of Nakatsu Castle, lured the local warlord Utsunomiya Shigefusa into the castle and had him assassinated.
