An ancient shrine located in Daisen-cho, with the sacred body of Mount Daisen (elevation 1,729 meters), known as the Hoki Fuji, as its deity. 大山は古代から霊山として崇められ、大神山神社はその守護神を祀る神社として創建された。中世には大山寺と習合し、修験道の霊場として発展した。明治の神仏分離令により大山寺と分離されたが、今日も大山信仰の中心地として多くの参拝者を迎える。奥宮社殿は国の重要文化財。
