Nissekiji Temple, located in the mountains near Itoigawa City, is an ancient Shingon temple renowned for its cliff-carved Buddhist image and Fudo Falls. 由緒
Said to have been opened by Gyoki in the Nara period. From the Heian period onward it flourished as a sacred site of Fudo Myoo worship, where ascetic practitioners came to train. The cliff-carved Buddhist image is said to have been made between the late Heian and Kamakura periods.
