Maeda Toshiie
Founder of the Million-Koku Kaga Domain
The enormous wealth of the Kaga Domain, built on the foundations laid by Maeda Toshiie, enabled his successors to maintain and develop cultural heritage sites. Natadera was extensively rebuilt in 1648 by Maeda Toshitsune — Toshiie's grandson and the third lord of Kaga — resulting in the cluster of Important Cultural Properties that stands today. The economic base and commitment to cultural patronage passed down from Toshiie through successive Maeda lords elevated Natadera to one of Hokuriku's foremost temples.
