Nagashino Castle was the stage of the 1575 Battle of Nagashino. It is widely known for the story of Torii Suneemon, who escaped the castle to seek reinforcements and, even after capture, shouted to his allies that help was coming in an act of desperate loyalty.

Nagashino Castle is said to have been constructed in 1508 by Suganuma Motoaki on a cliff at the confluence of the Toyo and Ure rivers, making use of the natural terrain as a formidable stronghold. 長篠の戦い
1575年(天正3年)、愛知県新城市の設楽原において、織田信長・徳川家康連合軍が武田勝頼率いる武田軍を撃破した戦い。信長は三千挺ともいわれる鉄砲を有効活用した三段撃ちの戦術を駆使し、武田の精鋭騎馬隊を壊滅させた。この戦いは鉄砲による集団戦法が騎馬戦術を凌駕した画期的な合戦として近世軍事史の転換点とされる。武田方は山県昌景・馬場信春・内藤昌豊ら錚々たる将を失い、武田氏衰退の決定的な契機となった。長篠城址・設楽原決戦場跡は現在も保存されている。
