Myogi Shrine enshrines Sugawara no Michizane as one of its three principal deities, alongside Yamato Takeru and Toyouke no Okami. After his death, Michizane came to be revered as the deity of learning and was enshrined at Tenmangu shrines across Japan. At Myogi too, his blessing for academic achievement has been cherished by generations of worshippers.
