A Jodo Shinshu (Honganji) temple in Matsudo City, Chiba, connected to the eastward missionary journey of Shinran Shonin. The principal image of Amida Nyorai embodies the teaching of entrusting oneself to the Other Power. The temple developed alongside Matsudo as a post station on the Mito Kaido in the Edo period.
According to temple tradition, the founding of this temple is connected to the visit of Shinran Shonin around 1215 (the Kenpo era, 1213–1219), when the founder of Jodo Shinshu Buddhism is said to have passed through this area on his journey from Hitachi Province (present-day Ibaraki Prefecture) back…
