Kunohe Castle (also known as Fukuoka Castle) in Ninohe, Iwate Prefecture, was the stage of the 1591 Kunohe Uprising, the last major revolt against Toyotomi Hideyoshi's rule. In the 1591 Kunohe Rebellion, Ishida Mitsunari, together with Asano Nagamasa, was appointed by Toyotomi Hideyoshi as co-commander of the army sent to pacify Ōshū, and besieged Kunohe Castle, held by the rebel Kunohe Masazane, with over 60,000 troops. After about a month of fighting, the castle fell, ending the rebellion and closing the Sengoku era in the Tōhoku region.

政宗は豊臣秀吉の命を受け、九戸の乱の鎮圧軍に参加した。この乱の鎮圧により東北の統一が完成し、政宗の仙台移封への道が開かれた。

In 1591, Nanbu clan retainer Kunohe Masazane rebelled against Toyotomi Hideyoshi's Oshu Shioki reforms and held out at Kunohe Castle in the Kunohe Rebellion. Hideyoshi dispatched an army of over 60,000 led by Ishida Mitsunari and Asano Nagamasa to crush the revolt, securing Toyotomi rule over the Tohoku region and ending the Sengoku era there.
