A shrine on the former main bailey of Koga Castle enshrining Minamoto no Yorimasa. Yorimasa was a late Heian warrior who raised arms against the Taira with Prince Mochihito. Koga Castle became a famous castle after Koga Kubo Ashikaga Shigeuji entered in 1456. For about 130 years as the Koga Kubo base, it was the political center of Kanto. 享徳の乱

1454年から1482年にかけて関東で起きた大乱。鎌倉公方・足利成氏が関東管領・上杉憲忠を暗殺したことに端を発し、以後約三十年にわたって関東全域が戦乱に巻き込まれた。成氏は古河（現在の茨城県古河市）に移って古河公方となり、幕府・関東管領上杉氏と対立し続けた。この長期にわたる戦乱が関東の国人・土豪を自立させる契機となり、後北条氏の台頭など戦国大名出現の素地を作った。「関東の戦国時代」の始まりとして位置づけられ、日本の中世から近世への移行過程における重要事件とされる。
