In 1570, Oda Nobunaga led a large army to attack the Asakura clan of Echizen and besieged Kanegasaki Castle. But when his retreat was cut off, he faced a desperate crisis and barely escaped with his life in what history remembers as the "Kanegasaki Withdrawal." The adjacent Kanegasaki Castle ruins were the stage for this dramatic battle.
