A daimyo stroll garden built in 1688 by the second Marugame lord Kyogoku Takatoyo, modeled on the Eight Views of his ancestral Omi Province; tidal waters of the Seto Inland Sea feed its pond, and ancient pines, plums, and cherries preserve the essence of early-Edo daimyo garden design.
Nakatsu Banshoen Garden on Marugame's coast was built in 1688 by Kyogoku Takatoyo, the second Marugame lord, as a villa. This daimyo stroll garden mimics the Eight Views of Omi, using inland-sea water for its pond and featuring ancient pines, plums, and cherries. A well-preserved example of early Edo daimyo gardens, with an adjoining art museum.
