According to tradition, the shrine was founded in 725 (Jinki 2) when the monk Gyoki transferred its divine spirit here. From the summit of Mount Kotohiki, worshippers can look down upon the Zenigata sand image, and the shrine is venerated as a deity of good fortune and wealth.
