A Soto-shu Zen temple founded in 1645 by Asano Naganao, lord of Ako, as the Asano family mortuary temple. After the 1702 Ako Incident, the hair-reliquaries of the 47 ronin were enshrined here, and the graves of all 47 warriors line the precincts. The Gishi Memorial Hall displays personal artifacts of the ronin.
