A magnificent castle-palace built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in Kyoto in 1587. It served as the political center of the Toyotomi regime, hosting even a visit from Emperor Go-Yozei to display the regime's authority. In 1587, Toyotomi Hideyoshi built Jurakudai in Kyoto as a magnificent castle-mansion serving as the seat of his government as regent. The next year he hosted Emperor Go-Yozei there, showcasing Toyotomi authority. After ceding it to his nephew Hidetsugu, Hideyoshi ordered its complete demolition following the Hidetsugu Incident, and it vanished within eight years.

Hideyoshi's nephew Hidetsugu received the Kampaku position and the Jurakudai in 1591, from where he governed. After Hideyori's birth, his relationship with Hideyoshi deteriorated, and in 1595 he was accused of treason and forced to commit suicide at Mount Koya. The Jurakudai was razed in Hideyoshi's fury, and Hidetsugu's wives and children were also executed in a terrible tragedy.
