概要
Hoonji is a Soto Zen temple founded in 1394 by Nanbu Nobunaga, 11th head of the Nanbu clan. Its 1713 Gohyaku Rakan Hall, an Important Cultural Property, houses 499 wooden arhats carved by Kyoto sculptors over nine years. No two expressions are alike, making the work a celebrated masterpiece.
