The 38th temple on the Shikoku Eighty-Eight Temple Pilgrimage, Kongofuku-ji stands at the very tip of Cape Ashizuri and is the southernmost sacred site in Shikoku. Origins

According to tradition, the temple was founded in 822 (Kōnin 13) by the monk Kūkai (Kōbō Daishi) at the behest of Emperor Saga.
