The 24th temple on the Shikoku Pilgrimage of 88 Sacred Sites, also known as 'the checkpoint temple of Tosa.' It stands near the summit of Cape Muroto, close to the Mikurodo Cave, where the young monk Kukai (Kobo Daishi) is said to have practiced the Kokuzogumonsoji rite and attained enlightenment, receiving his dharma name 'Kukai.' This sacred connection gives Hotsumisakiji a special significance among pilgrimage sites.
