Fukaya Tenmangu enshrines Sugawara no Michizane as its deity. Founded in the Kamakura period, the shrine was established as part of the Tenjin faith that spread across Japan after Michizane's death in 903, bringing his spirit to Musashi Province. Plum trees fill the grounds each spring, their blossoms recalling his famous verse: "East wind, carry my fragrance, blossoms of plum."
