Overview
Fujiidera (founded 725 by Gyoki) enshrines a Thousand-armed Kannon (National Treasure) that uniquely possesses a genuine 1,041 arms. The fifth site of the Saigoku Sanjusan-sho Pilgrimage, it opens to the public on the 18th of each month, drawing Buddhist art lovers and pilgrims nationwide.
Origins
Founded in 725 by Gyoki at the command of Emperor Shomu. Flourished as the clan temple of the Fujii clan, a family of Baekje royal descent. The Thousand-armed Kannon (National Treasure) is a Nara-period masterpiece and the only statue in Japan with a genuine 1,041 arms.

Senju Kannon (Thousand-Armed Kannon): rescues all beings through a thousand methods, with a thousand hands and a thousand eyes. Usually represented with 42 arms standing for the full thousand — an expression of boundless compassion.
