On June 28, 1570, Oda Nobunaga allied with Tokugawa Ieyasu and clashed with the combined forces of Azai Nagamasa and Asakura Yoshikage along the Anegawa River. The two sides fought fiercely across the river, and the Oda-Tokugawa alliance emerged victorious. This defeat greatly weakened the Azai clan, setting them on the path to the fall of Odani Castle and their destruction three years later.
