The Battlefield of Anegawa was the site of the 1570 battle between the allied forces of Oda Nobunaga and Tokugawa Ieyasu against the Asai and Asakura clans. The river reportedly ran red with blood from the fierce fighting, which ended in Oda-Tokugawa victory and set the Asai clan on the path to destruction three years later.
