生涯
Son of Uesugi Norikiyo, a retainer of the Ogigayatsu Uesugi. A close aide to Kamakura Kubo Ashikaga Mochiuji and lord of Enoshita Castle in Sagami Province. In the 1438 Eikyo Disturbance he held the castle for Mochiuji but was driven out by shogunate forces, pursued, and took his life at Shomyoji Temple with his son Norie.
Personality
A loyal retainer of the Kamakura Kubo who chose to fight to the end even against overwhelming odds.
Historical Significance
The Eikyo Disturbance marked the fall of Kamakura Kubo Ashikaga Mochiuji and deepening conflict between the Muromachi shogunate and the Kanto region; Norinao's death was one of its symbolic episodes. The Enoshita Castle site is preserved today within the grounds of Kyujoji Temple.
