生涯
Born in Higo. Trained under the Ōbaku masters Ingen and Mokuan, he devoted his life to carving woodblocks for the 6,956-volume Buddhist canon (the Tetsugen edition). Famously, he twice spent his entire collection of donations on famine relief, yet still completed the project.

Selfless devotee of the dharma.

The greatest publishing project in Japanese Buddhist history.
