The son of Takeda Kuninobu. Based at Hiyodorio Castle, in 1563 he killed the chief retainers of his overlords, the Yamana clan, seized Tottori Castle, and took effective control of Inaba. He expanded his power under Mori patronage, but suffered heavy losses at the Battle of Ashiya Castle in 1571, and after his defeat by the Amago restoration army in 1573 he lost Tottori Castle. Driven out of Hiyodorio Castle by Yamana Toyokuni in 1575 and abandoned by the Mori, he is said to have been assassinated at Daigi-ji Temple in 1576.
Personality
An ambitious upstart who rose through gekokujo by killing his own overlords' chief retainers. He seized dominance over Inaba within a generation, but ultimately met a violent end amid conflicts with surrounding powers.
Historical Significance
His story of gekokujo centered on Hiyodorio Castle is often told as a microcosm of the Sengoku turmoil in Inaba Province.
