A senior retainer of the Ōtomo of Bungo. Legend says he cut down a lightning bolt and drove off the thunder god, earning the epithet "Thunder God." Even after his legs were paralyzed he commanded from a palanquin, contesting the Shimazu and Ryūzōji of Kyushu.
