Born into a Confucian scholar family of Aki Hiroshima. Over more than twenty years he wrote the Nihon Gaishi, a Chinese-style chronicle of the rise and fall of the warrior houses, which became the favorite reading of late-Edo loyalists and powerfully shaped pro-imperial thought.
