Eldest son of Yoriyoshi. After his coming-of-age at Iwashimizu Hachimangū he was called Hachimantarō. He suppressed the Kiyohara internal strife in the Later Three Years' War (1083–1087) and, by rewarding his retainers from his own pocket, won the loyalty of eastern warriors and became the model warrior chief.
