Son of Yorinobu. As governor of Mutsu he fought the Earlier Nine Years' War (1051–1062) against Abe no Yoritoki and Sadatō, finally suppressing them after twelve years. He founded Tsurugaoka Hachimangū in Kamakura by transferring the kami from Kyoto.
